Silver Stream Shelters manufactures out of Altona, Manitoba and Neche, North Dakota. Their factory produces over 450 shelter kits each year, distributed through 29 dealers across North America. They're one of the few mid-tier ag-focused brands with three different frame platforms in the catalogue: wood-laminate (glulam-style timber) arch, single steel arch, and steel truss arch in 30 to 65 foot clear spans. Powder-coated frames in matched colours, 12.5oz fabric (heavier than the 12oz on most mid-tier kits), and a manufacture-to-install lead time of 3–4 weeks plus 2–3 days on site.

What's different between Silver Stream's three frame styles?
The three frames install differently and serve different customers:
- Wood-laminate arch: Silver Stream's signature platform. Glulam-style timber arches with fabric over the top. Lighter than steel, visually warmer, common in horse and cattle barns where appearance matters. The frame goes up about half a day faster than steel-truss for the same footprint because the timber arches are pre-laminated and set as single pieces. Lower max snow-load rating than the truss-arch — confirm your local snow load before you spec.
- Single steel arch: Silver Stream's budget option. One continuous steel tube per arch, no internal bracing. Fast to install, lower snow-load capacity. Suitable for hay storage, machinery, and general shelter where you're not betting on a 100-year snow event. Common in 30- and 35-wide.
- Steel truss arch: the workhorse. Two parallel steel members with bracing between them — same engineering principle as a Cover-Tech or North Country truss. Strongest of the three, recommended for ag and industrial use on the Prairies. Comes in widths through 65 feet clear span.
All three install at the same flat rate by footprint. The choice is about what the building does, not what we charge.
What slows us down on Silver Stream installs?
Two things show up on most builds:
- Heavier fabric, slower deploy. The 12.5oz cover is a better long-term cover than the 12oz on most mid-tier kits, but it's stiffer to handle on install day. We tension Silver Stream covers in three passes — once at 60% to seat, once at 80% to relax, then a final pass to spec — instead of the two-pass we'd run on a lighter fabric.
- Powder-coat finish protection. Same issue as on a Kodiak. Powder coat doesn't self-heal at scuffed edges the way hot-dipped galvanized does. We pad every sling contact point and don't drag trusses across the pad. Customers notice the difference 2–3 years later when poorly-installed Silver Streams start showing rust spots at the lift points.

Wood-laminate arch builds run a half-day faster on the frame stage than steel-truss versions of the same footprint — the timber arches set faster than truss assemblies. The fabric work is identical regardless of frame style.

What should I have ready before install day?
- Pad: level, compacted gravel sized to footprint plus a 2-foot working perimeter.
- Anchoring decision: confirmed in advance. Concrete piers, helical piles, or compacted-gravel ground anchors all work for Silver Stream frames.
- Crate opened and inventoried: Silver Stream packs hardware tightly — a count before crew day catches any shortages early.
- Access: 1-ton truck plus a manlift on anything 40-wide and up.
