Kodiak Shelter Systems out of Selkirk, Manitoba builds portable garages, fabric-covered steel-frame buildings, agricultural barns, and industrial shelters. Their kits use a 12oz polyethylene-impregnated ripstop fabric with a rubberized inner coating that resists tearing better than standard PE, and powder-coated steel frames that show their weight when you're lifting trusses. Kodiaks have proven themselves on farms, mining sites, forestry operations, construction sites, and remote exploration camps across the harshest regions in Canada. The build quality is excellent.

Kodiak offers a 10-year warranty on materials, with a step-up to 15 years if Kodiak's own crew performs the install. The catch: Kodiak's install service is local to Manitoba. If your site is in Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, Ontario, or anywhere else outside their drive zone, you need a crew that will travel to you. We're that crew. Does Max Contractors install Kodiak buildings?

Yes — both the fabric Kodiaks and the metal Kodiak/VersaTube partnership kits. Most of our Kodiak work is in the Prairies and BC, where Kodiak's own crew doesn't travel and the local dealer network can sell the kit but not assemble it.

If you bought a Kodiak through a dealer who doesn't install in your area, or you bought one secondhand, or your Kodiak arrived from the factory and you don't have the equipment to put it up — call us. Same flat-rate pricing as every other brand we install.

What's different about installing a Kodiak?

Three things show up on every Kodiak build:

1. Heavier steel. Kodiak's frames are built for harsh-duty applications and the trusses are noticeably more substantial than mid-tier kits in the same footprint. Plan a manlift on every size 30-wide and up. On a 40'×80' Kodiak we run two manlifts; on most other 40'×80' brands we'd run one.
2. Stiffer fabric. The 12oz ripstop with rubberized inner is more resistant to tearing than standard PVC, which is excellent for the building's lifespan but harder to work with on install day. We tension Kodiak covers in three passes — once at 60% to seat the fabric, once at 80% to let the rubberized inner relax, then a final pass to spec. Pulling full tension in one pass on this fabric will visibly distort the panels.
3. Powder-coat finish protection. Hot-dipped galvanized frames forgive sling marks and cribbing scuffs because the surface self-heals at the edges. Powder coat doesn't. We pad every contact point on Kodiak frames during the lift, and we don't drag trusses across the pad. Customers notice the finish damage two years later when other crews have left it.

How much does professional installation cost for a Kodiak shelter?

Flat rate by size — same as every other brand. Common Kodiak sizes:

Base installation covers crew assembly of the frame, cover installation and tensioning, and anchoring to the agreed prepared base. Equipment rentals, travel, and lodging are assessed separately after discussing your project. The kit, site preparation, foundations, and permits are separate.

Add a day on Kodiak builds versus a same-size lighter brand — the heavier steel and stiffer fabric mean each truss takes longer to set and the cover goes on slower. We book the schedule with that buffer included.

What about the Kodiak / VersaTube metal kits?

Kodiak partners with VersaTube on pre-engineered metal building kits — different product from the fabric shelters, same brand on the box. Our crews install both. The metal-kit assembly is steel-on-steel framing with sheet-metal cladding instead of fabric tensioning, so the day-by-day shape of the install differs, but the flat-rate pricing by footprint is identical. What should I have ready before install day?

• Pad: level, compacted gravel sized to footprint plus a 2-foot working perimeter. Kodiak's heavier frames are less forgiving of grade — anything more than 1% slope across the pad and we'll need to shim.
• Anchoring decision: confirmed in advance. Concrete piers and helical piles are both common on Kodiaks given the frame weight; ground anchors work on smaller sizes but get marginal at 50-wide and up.
• Crate opened and inventoried: Kodiak ships hardware well-organized but a count before crew day catches any shipping shortages early.
• Access: 1-ton truck plus a manlift on anything 30-wide and up; two manlifts at 40-wide and up.
