Kodiak Shelter Systems out of Selkirk, Manitoba builds portable garages, fabric-covered steel-frame buildings, agricultural barns, and industrial shelters. Their kits use a 12oz polyethylene-impregnated ripstop fabric with a rubberized inner coating that resists tearing better than standard PE, and powder-coated steel frames that show their weight when you're lifting trusses. Kodiaks have proven themselves on farms, mining sites, forestry operations, construction sites, and remote exploration camps across the harshest regions in Canada. The build quality is excellent.
Kodiak offers a 10-year warranty on materials, with a step-up to 15 years if Kodiak's own crew performs the install. The catch: Kodiak's install service is local to Manitoba. If your site is in Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, Ontario, or anywhere else outside their drive zone, you need a crew that will travel to you. We're that crew. Yes — both the fabric Kodiaks and the metal Kodiak/VersaTube partnership kits. Most of our Kodiak work is in the Prairies and BC, where Kodiak's own crew doesn't travel and the local dealer network can sell the kit but not assemble it.

Add a day on Kodiak builds versus a same-size lighter brand — the heavier steel and stiffer fabric mean each truss takes longer to set and the cover goes on slower. We book the schedule with that buffer included.
Kodiak partners with VersaTube on pre-engineered metal building kits — different product from the fabric shelters, same brand on the box. Our crews install both. The metal-kit assembly is steel-on-steel framing with sheet-metal cladding instead of fabric tensioning, so the day-by-day shape of the install differs, but the flat-rate pricing by footprint is identical. A mid-size fabric building is realistically a 250–400 man-hour project for a first-time crew — frame, truss alignment, cover tensioning, doors, and the re-dos in between. That means pulling two or three of your people off operations for weeks, or having our crew hand you a finished building in days. At a loaded $40/hour, 300 diverted hours is roughly $12,000 of payroll producing zero revenue — before the rented manlift sits on the clock, and before another season passes with the kit still in the crate. Your team runs your operation. Ours stands up buildings. (Hours are crew estimates from the installs we've done; your mileage varies with size and site.)

Kodiak's standard warranty is 10 years on materials and steps up to 15 years if Kodiak performs the install. Outside Manitoba, Kodiak rarely sends its own crew, so the practical choice for most western customers is the standard 10-year warranty plus a third-party install. We document every build with photos for your records, and we install to manufacturer spec — same fabric tension targets, same anchor pattern, same hardware torque values. Confirm warranty specifics with Kodiak in writing before you bid the project.
Three things. First, the steel is heavier — Kodiak's frames are built for harsh-duty applications (mining, forestry, remote camps) and the trusses are noticeably more substantial than mid-tier kits. Plan a manlift on every size 30-wide and up. Second, the 12oz ripstop with rubberized inner coating is stiffer than standard PVC; we tension it in three passes instead of two so the rubberized side doesn't crease. Third, powder-coat finish on the frame means we're more careful with sling marks and cribbing — surface scuffs show on a powder coat in a way they don't on a hot-dipped galvanized frame.

30'×40' runs 2 days; 30'×60' runs 2–3 days; 40'×80' runs 3 days; 50'×100' runs 4–5 days; 60-wide industrial sizes run 5–8 days depending on door configuration. We've never had a Kodiak we couldn't finish in the booked window though.
