You've got a TMG dealer quote in one hand and an Uncle Wiener's store visit booked for Saturday. Both brands sell Chinese-manufactured double-truss kits into the same Prairie buyer market, both publish catalogue pricing, and both move real volume through Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Our crews put up kits from both, so this page compares them the way we'd explain it over the tailgate: published spec against published spec, plus what actually comes out of the crates. Two cautions on reading that table. First, Uncle Wiener's list prices are starting prices — the length variant you actually want usually requires a call to confirm. Second, the biggest spread is at 30 feet wide: UW's 30-wide starts at $7,995 with a 22.5 oz cover, while TMG's 30×60 lists at $16,999 with a lighter 17 oz cover. At 40 feet wide the sticker gap closes but the spec flips — UW's standard 40-wide cover drops to 14.5 oz unless you pay for the 22 oz upgrade.
Kit completeness runs in TMG's favour. TMG hardware bags ship short on maybe 1–3% of the count — a few bolts, the odd tension strap — while roughly 10–20% of the UW kits we've opened were short a handful of fasteners. Neither is a crisis; our trucks carry spare hardware bins for both. Documentation is a wash: TMG manuals are translated from Chinese with occasional ambiguity in the tensioning sequence, and UW paperwork has its own gap — we've had two owners discover at delivery that the crate held a 14.5 oz cover when they believed they'd paid for 22 oz. On a UW purchase, make the invoice state the cover's ounce weight before money moves.
Assembly behaviour differs less than the marketing suggests. Both are bolt-together arch systems that hold square when properly anchored. On TMG's 50-foot-plus models we routinely upgrade the peak-anchor hardware for Class 1A snow zones; on UW kits the recurring substitution is anchor length — some models spec anchors shallower than the 4-foot frost depth Prairie winters demand, so we drive to 4 feet regardless. And on any TMG, don't over-tension on day one: the PVC keeps shrinking for about six weeks, and first-timers who pull it drum-tight early come back to popped ratchet housings.
Pick TMG if you want a warranty in writing (one year is short, but it's on paper and it flows through a dealer who answers the phone), if you need the genuinely heavy 32 oz Pro Series cover on a 50-wide-plus build, or if your nearest dealer has the size in stock and speed matters.
Pick Uncle Wiener's if you're buying a 30-wide — the published numbers say you get a heavier standard cover for roughly half TMG's list at that width — if hot-dip galvanization is on your must-have list, or if walking into a store and looking at a standing display before paying is how you make a $20,000 decision. Just leave the store with warranty terms in writing, because the website won't give you any.
Neither brand wins for everyone. TMG buyers are paying for catalogue breadth and dealer support; UW buyers are trading published warranty language for retail proximity and, at some widths, better cover spec per dollar.
It depends on the width. At 30 feet wide, Uncle Wiener's published start price ($7,995, 22.5 oz cover) undercuts TMG's 30×60 at $16,999 (17 oz cover) by a wide margin. At 40 feet wide they converge — UW starts at $19,995 while TMG's 30×80 lists at $19,999 — but UW's standard 40-wide cover is lighter at 14.5 oz unless upgraded. Always compare at the same footprint and the same cover weight, and confirm UW's length-variant pricing by phone.
Tubing sizes are close: TMG runs 2-inch 15-gauge on standard Pro models and 2.5-inch 14-gauge on heavy models; Uncle Wiener's runs 2-3/8-inch 15-gauge across its double-truss line. The clearest published difference is the coating — UW specifies hot-dip galvanizing, a legitimately premium spec, while TMG publishes 'commercial grade, 3-layer galvanized' without a G-rating. In the field, both frame systems hold square when properly anchored.
TMG publishes a 1-year warranty on all lines, which is short for the category but documented. Uncle Wiener's does not publish warranty terms on its product pages at all, so the honest comparison is 'short versus unknown.' Before buying UW, get frame and cover terms in writing; before buying TMG, budget for the reality that year two onward is on you.
