This is the head-to-head we get asked about most on install days: the premium published-price Canadian brand against the biggest dealer-network catalogue in the Prairies. Both publish their prices, both sell double-truss kits, and both are manufactured overseas — which means the comparison comes down to numbers you can check: cover weight, frame spec, warranty years, and dollars at the same footprint. Prices are both brands' published CAD retail as of April 2026 research. The one row where TMG out-specs MSB is cover weight at the very top: the 32 oz Pro Series (~1,085 g/m²) is genuinely heavier than MSB's 750 g/m² — at roughly double the price at 50×100. Everywhere else in the catalogue, MSB's standard cover is the heavier one.

From the crates we've opened

These two brands sit at opposite ends of our crate-opening experience. MSB kits arrive short of meaningful hardware less than 2% of the time, the fasteners are grade-rated and consistent, and the documentation is English-native with permit-ready drawings. TMG kits run short on roughly 1–3% of the hardware count — manageable, but it's why we carry spare bins — and the translated manuals occasionally go vague right where you need them, in the tensioning order.

Assembly difficulty cuts the other way. MSB's frames are heavier steel, which means higher anchor-torque specs (impact tools, not cordless drivers), more crew or more equipment for handling, and a tensioning sequence the 750-gram cover does not forgive if you improvise — especially below -25°C, when it stiffens noticeably. TMG frames are lighter to handle and go up quickly; the recurring TMG-specific jobs are upgrading peak-anchor hardware on 50-foot-plus builds in Class 1A snow zones and talking first-timers out of over-tensioning a cover that will keep shrinking for six weeks. Both systems hold square long-term when anchored properly.

Which one for which buyer

Pick MSB if you're running total-cost-of-ownership math on a 15-plus-year keep horizon. At the sizes both brands publish, MSB's list price is roughly 40% lower at 30×60 and 30×80 with a heavier cover and a 12-year warranty against TMG's 1-year — that's the spec-per-dollar case in one sentence. Customization outside the 18 standard sizes is available on request.

Pick TMG if you specifically want the heaviest cover money can buy on a 50-wide-plus footprint — the 32 oz Pro Series out-weighs everything else we install — and you're prepared to pay about double MSB's equivalent-size price for it. TMG also wins when a dealer has your size sitting in stock and MSB's spring build queue is weeks long, or when you want an in-person dealer relationship handling any warranty conversation.

Where TMG doesn't win is the middle of the catalogue: a 17 oz cover at a higher sticker than MSB's 750 g/m² is a hard sell once the buyer has seen both spec sheets.
